When using an infrared therapy lamp, attention should be paid to the distance:
- A distance of 20–60 cm from the skin is generally appropriate. The distance can be adjusted based on the patient’s sensation of warmth on the skin.
- If the lamp is too close, it may cause skin burns. A distance of at least 20 cm is recommended; when using short-wave infrared lamps, the distance can be around 60 cm.
- Both exposure time and distance should be determined according to the patient’s condition. Prolonged exposure should be avoided, as it may cause pigmentation, persistent erythema, or even burns.
- When irradiating the face, avoid direct exposure to the eyes. The eyes should be covered for protection.
